Time for another delicious cake, this time one using orange to add a little Mediterranean taste to proceedings.
The following recipe is for a lovely Chocolate Orange loaf and it tastes really nice. So here’s what you need to do.
First pre-heat the oven to 180c and grease a loaf tin.
Chocolate Orange Loaf Recipe
- 140g butter, softened
- 200g golden caster sugar
- 200g self-raising flour
- 1 1⁄2 tsp baking powder
- 3 large eggs
- 6 tbsp fresh orange juice
- Zest of 1 large orange
For topping
- Dissolve 50g golden caster sugar in 3 tbsp orange juice
- 50g dark chocolate
Method
Mix all the cake ingredients together either using food mixer or by hand until light and fluffy. Once you have achieved this, transfer the mixture to the greased loaf tin and bake for around 40 minutes until golden brown and springy to the touch.
Meanwhile, dissolve the sugar in the orange juice and then melt the chocolate in a separate bowl.
Once the cake is ready spread the orange syrup evenly along the top of the cake while still in the tin. If cool enough you can then remove the cake from the tin and drizzle the chocolate over the cake. Leave on a wire rack to set and decorate by placing a slice of orange on top.
